Ford to launch India made EcoSport in the US?

Looks like Ford Motor Company is seriously considering EcoSport for the United States of America, as one was spotted there just recently. Given EcoSport’s success since its conception and that it would have less rivals in the USA, Ford can launch EcoSport there and grab a chuck of compact crossover market share.

ford to launch india made ecosport in the USAlan Mulally, Chief Executive Officer of Ford Motor Company, told reporters at Detroit Motor Show this year that EcoSport will land in America at the right time, soon. Mark Fields, Chief Operating officer of Ford, indicated that Ford has its eyes set on compact SUV segment in USA, given its popularity over past few years. This could mean Ford will soon bring EcoSport to American tarmac. EcoSport would rival against Nissan’s revamped Juke and Honda’s HR-V (Vezel) introduced at New York International Auto Show last month.

Same 1 litre EcoBoost engine could drive the EcoSport in America, which made news among international media, for being carried from Detroit to Los Angeles by flight in a check-in bag, to show how small it really is! Same engine that powers Ford Fiesta SFE, producing 123 hp max power and 169 Nm peak torque. However, peak torque rises to 201 Nm in the Fiesta when over boost function is activated.

Ford can ship EcoSport to the USA from its plants in Brazil, Thailand (Rayong) or from India (Chennai). Since Brazil is closest, we expect the crossover to go from there, although Ford’s Chennai plant exports EcoSport to various markets in Asia, Africa, Australia and Europe. If Ford does get the EcoSport for America from India, then it will be quite interesting, as an American manufacturer will be manufacturing cars for American market in India.
