Now what is a car doing at a show which is for mobile phones? The idea behind choosing MWC 2013 as the venue for unveiling the EcoSport, is to show Ford’s in-car voice activated system SYNC Applink, which will allow you to connect your Androids, iPhones and all other gadgets in a never before way. You will be able to control the apps in your smartphone with voice.
Ford is not new to Mobile World Congress. Last year, they had unveiled the European version of B-Max. Just like India, Ford EcoSport Europe variant will receive the same set of engines, 1.0L EcoBoost 125 PS, 1.5L Ti VCT petrol 110 PS and 1.5L TCDi diesel 90 PS. Speaking about India, the compact SUV is very near to its launch. As per a statement made in 2012, Ford India will launch the EcoSport by early 2013. Though no dates for launch of EcoSport has been revealed, Ford officials have recently confirmed that they are on schedule, as far as launching the EcoSport in India is concerned. Speaking about the SYNC Applink, Paul Mascarenas, Ford chief technical officer and vice president, Research and Innovation, said, “We are entering the age of the connected car and debuting EcoSport at Mobile World Congress underlines just how important advanced vehicle technology is to customers and to Ford. The role of the car is evolving. Customers want to be able to safely enjoy the same level of connectivity in their cars as they would do at home, and SYNC AppLink enables then to do just that. By maximising the potential of apps, Ford can offer customers a class-leading range of smartphone app capabilities while on the move.”
Apart from this, Ford will also launch the full range of their Tourneo vans in Europe at the next month’s 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Ford Motors’ press conference at the Geneva show will be hosted by Stephen Odell, Executive VP, Ford, and Barb Samardzich, VP, Product Development, Ford. The press conference is scheduled to start at 12:45 PM (UK time) on 5th March 2013. Images here are credit to hdmotori.
