A camouflaged test mule of the Ford EcoSport facelift has been spied up close in China. While the exterior features a revamped front fascia, the surprise lies inside. The dual-tone black and beige dashboard is entirely different from that of the existing car and certainly has an upmarket appeal.
Given that the EcoSport is a part of the One Ford global strategy, we expect the most of the aforementioned improvements to be carried over to the global model as well. The update is due for 2017.
Though the front fascia is covered by a heavy camouflage, one can notice new headlamps, grille and bumper. The new design is expected to get more anguar like the Edge. Changes to the rear fascia would include a slightly revised taillight clusters and reprofiled bumper. Like the Europen version, the Chinese model eschews the tail-gate mounted spare wheels.
The interior has nothing in common with that of the outgoing car. The steering wheel and instrument console are new, centre console has a stand-alone infotainment system (higher variants would incorporate touchscreen unit), and the low-mounted centre AC vents are hexagonal in shape. The overall design looks much more sophisticated than the existing one.
For the Chinese market, the Ford EcoSport facelift is expected to pack the 125 PS 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbo petrol and 110 PS 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine. Both manual and automatic transmission would be offered.
