In a little over 24 months, Ford EcoSport production has crossed 2 lakh mark in India.

Priced in the range of Rs 6.75 lakhs to Rs 10.20 lakhs, ex-showroom, New Delhi; Ford EcoSport is the first compact SUV in the sub four metre segment in India. Launched back in 2013, EcoSport was first showcased as a concept at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.

With over 112,000 happy customers in India and over 87,000 customers in over 60 other countries, Ford India today announced that their second generation EcoSport production has now crossed 2 lakh units. Manufactured at Ford India’s state of the art car manufacturing plant in Chennai, EcoSport is also the best selling Ford car in India, ever since it was launched.

Offered in a choice of petrol and diesel engine options, Ford EcoSport is set to receive a facelift either later this year or early next year. Apart from this, Ford EcoSport facelift 1.5l diesel engine option will receive power boost from existing 91 PS to 100 PS. Other two 1.5l petrol and 1.0l EcoBoost options remain unchanged.

Even today, more than two years after launch, EcoSport is not readily available. The company is trying very hard to reduce waiting period, which are from anywhere between 1-3 months, depending on the model and city in which you are buying the EcoSport. With their second plant in Sanand already commissioned, Ford India will soon be able to increase production capacity of EcoSport.

Ford will be shifting the production of the Figo hatchback to their plant in Sanand, where the new-gen Figo hatchback will be produced. For now, the Sanand plant is busy manufacturing the Figo Aspire sedan, which is due for launch in the coming days. It will rival the likes of Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, and Tata Zest.
