Ford EcoSport replacement SUV may be called Puma – Debut in Sep 2019

A prototype of new small SUV has been spied testing around the Ford European headquarters in Cologne, Germany. This is expected to be the next generation EcoSport, that will take the place of the ageing EcoSport compact SUV. The model on test appears to be closely akin to the redesigned Fiesta hatchback.

The design of the new gen car is based on the same modular structure as the current generation Fiesta hatchback, replacing the earlier boxy stance of the older EcoSport. The front end gets a signature Ford grille. Headlamps are pulled back while a high set side profile and conventional top hinged boot lid are also expected on the new EcoSport.

Bringing in fresh styling on the new gen EcoSport from the Fiesta will ensure better alignment with the company’s global models especially since the Fiesta has been the bestselling car in Britain in 2018. The EcoSport, on the other hand, has also been a strong seller for Ford worldwide, especially in India. It has been around since 2013 and due for a refresh while the new design will also change the way other markets respond to the new EcoSport.

Compared to the current EcoSport, the new replacement SUV could a larger SUV. It will offer more space and comfort. No interior details have been revealed as on date but will include several driver and passenger comfort features along with a host of new safety equipment so as to comply with new safety regulations being introduced. New Ford EcoSport will make its debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show in September this year. It could be christened Puma.

Both manual as well as automatic transmission option will be on offer.

As was seen on the current Ford EcoSport, which was first showcased as a concept at the 2012 Auto Expo, the upcoming new gen EcoSport could also make its India debut at the 2020 Auto export, prior to its launchhere. Once officially launched, the new EcoSport will rival the Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and soon to be launched Hyundai Carlino Styx.
