The upcoming Ford EcoSport in the sub 4-meter category is scheduled to be launched in India by early 2013. The compact SUV measures just over 4 meters if the spare wheel is taken into consideration but according to norm, the spare wheel cannot be considered while maintaining the vehicle under the 4 meter category. The company has hence decided to retain the spare wheel so as to give the EcoSport an SUV stance and to add to a sense of proportion.
Ford has already launched the new EcoSport in Brazil, where it was recently awarded as the Best SUV of the Year. In India, Ford EcoSport will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Renault Duster will be powered by the state of the art, 1.0 liter turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine. This engine will be capable of 120 PS at 6000 rpm and peak torque of 170 Nm at 1300 to 4500 rpm.
The EcoSport will also possess a 1.5 liter TDCi turbo diesel engine offering 80 PS at 3500 rpm and peak torque of 160 Nm at 2000 to 2750 rpm. These engines will be mated either to a 6 speed Powershift automatic gearbox or to a 5 speed gearbox and will be capable of acceleration from 0 to 100 in 16 seconds and a top speed of 160 kmph.
Loaded with features this sub 4 meter EcoSport will have remote operated doors, power windows and My Connection features where its music system is concerned. iPod and USB connectivity and a SYNC feature that works on voice recognition is also being made available. For more information, scroll down.
