All set to be launched in the coming weeks, unofficial bookings of the new Ford Endeavour BS6 have opened.
Ford India is all set to launch the new engine on board the Endeavour. This new engine is internally called Panther. It is a single turbo diesel 2 liter BS6 compliant 4 cylinder engine. Post the launch of this new engine, the other two existing diesel engines will be discontinued.
Currently, Ford Endy is offered with 2.2 liter diesel and 3.2 liter 4 cyl diesel engines. Both these engines are BS4 compliant, and have not been updated to BS6. Instead, the internationally available 2.0 liter diesel 4 cyl has been updated to BS6. But, internationally the 2 liter diesel is offered with twin-turbo. For India, to reduce costs, the engine has been detuned to single turbo.
Outside India, this new 2.0 liter diesel engine is rated to deliver 210 hp and 500 Nm. But in India, the de-tuned single turbo BS6 motor will deliver 170 hp at 3500 rpm and 420 Nm at 1750-2250 rpm. This when compared to the current BS4 2.2 liter diesel (158 hp / 385 Nm), is more power and torque. But when compared to the 3.2 liter diesel BS4 Endy (197 hp / 470 Nm), is less powerful.
Another update on offer is the addition of 10 speed automatic gearbox. This gearbox replaces the existing 6 speed AT setup found on the current BS4 engines. Once launched, new Ford Endeavour BS6 will be the only car in India to be offered with a 10 speed gearbox. To assist drivers through various road conditions / off-road the new Endy comes with feature to lock gear, so it does not shift up or down on its own. This feature will come useful while off-roading. Another feature of this gearbox is that it can skip gears depending on the driver input / requirement.
With the launch of new Ford Endeavour, the company will also introduce their ‘Ford Pass’ connected car technology. In addition to the existing features, this new tech will allow owners to lock / unlock car, start / stop engine, start / stop AC, etc – all using the smartphone app.
Ford Endeavour BS6 spy shots confirm that it does not receive any major exterior design updates. In cabin features continue to sport dual tone dashboard, steering mounted controls, a panoramic sunroof, and an 8” infotainment system supporting both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Its safety features will include multiple airbags, parking sensors, traction control, hill descent control, rear parking camera and stability control along with ABS and EBD. Expect launch price to be in the Rs 32 lakh range, ex-sh. Unofficial bookings of BS6 Ford Endeavour are now open at select dealerships.
