2016 Ford Figo hatchback spied outside Ford Sanand plant

Though Ford India is yet to officially announce the start of production at their new plant in Sanand, trial production has already commenced. Scores of buses provides pick-up and drop to hundreds of employees to Ford Sanand plant from Ahmedabad. These buses feature the face of new Figo hatchback and sedan, as seen in the image below.

Speaking about the two new cars which Ford will produce at the Sanand plant, both Figo hatchback and sedan variants are based on the same platform. They are similar to the Ka and Ka+ models which were launched in Brazil last year. The only difference for India being, the Ka+, which was over 4 meter in length, will be under 4 meter in length when sold in India. (Ka and Ka+ are names for Brazil market, in India the new Figo siblings are yet to be given a name)

Recently, Rush Lane reader Uday Chandiramani managed to capture the all-new Figo hatchback just outside Ford’s Sanand plant. This comes after both Figo hatchback and sedan variants were spied in Udaipur, which is some 230 kms from Sanand. New Figo siblings feature new front face, which is more in line with Ford’s global design language. This face is already seen on the new Fiesta and EcoSport in India. On the inside as well, you will find a similar layout as to Fiesta and EcoBoost. In addition, spy shots reveal that the Figo siblings will have a new smartphone docking station on the top of the dashboard.

Expected to launch by mid 2015, new Ford Figo hatchback will rival the likes of Maruti Swift, and Hyundai Grand i10. It will be offered in a choice of petrol and diesel engine options right from launch. As far as engine options are concerned, there is no official word out. Rumor is that diesel will be via a 1.5l TDCi offering 75 PS, and petrol will be via a 1.0l EcoBoost minus turbocharger generating 80 PS.
