Already revealed in Brazil and Australia, the new Ford Figo hatchback is all set to make debut in India day after tomorrow. The design of the car and its interiors are going to be same as seen on the already launched Figo Aspire sedan. What remains to be seen is the engine options on offer with the Figo hatchback.
Considering that the Figo Aspire gets three engine options, it is very much possible for the shorter sibling to get the same. These options are 1.5l TDCi Duratorq diesel, 1.2l Ti-VCT petrol and 1.5l Ti-VCT petrol.
A report now confirms that the new Ford Figo hatchback is to get all three of these engine options. This means, that with the 1.5l petrol on board, Ford Figo will become the most powerful under 4 meter hatchback in the country. The 1.5l TiVCT petrol mill is rated by the ARAI to deliver peak power of 112 PS and peak torque of 136 Nm. This option is expected to be offered only with the automatic DCT gearbox, as is the case with the Figo Aspire.
Sadly, as per Indian government norms, the hatchback, though under 4 meter in length, will not be able to benefit from the reduced excise duty. This is because the reduced duty is only applicable when the length of the car is less than four meters, and is powered by a diesel engine with less than 1500 cc or a petrol engine with less than 1200 cc. The 1.5l TiVCT variant does not tick the second condition, and thus it will not fall under the reduced excise bracket.
The other two engine options, 1.5l TDCi will deliver 100 PS and 215 Nm torque, while the petrol 1.2 TiVCT delivers 88 PS and 112 Nm. Both these options will be mated to a five speed manual gearbox. Expect mileage to be higher than the Figo Aspire, which claims 25.8 kmpl for 1.5l diesel, 18.2 kmpl for the 1.2l petrol and 17 kmpl for 1.5l petrol.
