Ford Figo crash test

Ford Figo, manufactured in India, and sold in Mexico, has been awarded four stars each for adult, and child occupant protection. Ford Figo compact cars, both versions, sedan and hatch were updated from August 24, 2018 in Mexico.

In Mexico, production from model VIN MAJTKNFZ0KTT67367 onward feature 4 airbags as standard (India gets only 2 airbags as standard). They include two frontal, and two side body airbags. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is offered as standard. India-spec Ford Figo Aspire got 3 star safety rating by Global NCAP.

Reading into the 4-star rating reveals the structure as being rated unstable during frontal crash test. Driver head protection was adequate, and passenger head received good protection. Driver and Passenger neck protection was good. Driver chest manages marginal protection, and passenger chest received good protection from the restraint systems.

Driver and passenger’s knees get marginal protection. This is because they could impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard. Driver and passenger’s tibia receives adequate and good protection. Footwell area is rated as stable with insignificant deformation. Feet protection is good.

Side impact test showed good protection to head, abdomen and pelvis. Protection for chest is marked as marginal. Side pole impact test wasn’t carried out as the vehicle doesn’t offer side head protection as standard.

The vehicle features 2 frontal SBR as standard. During side impact test, a large intrusion in the passenger compartment was observed. The vehicle couldn’t withstand further loadings. Figo features ISOFIX, top tether anchorages in both rear outboard seats, and seatbelt reminders in both front seats as standard.

Both child dummies were set up with ISOFIX Child Restraint Systems using the top tether for the 3-year old dummy, and support leg for the 18-month old dummy. Both showed good protection levels.

Crash test weight is noted at 1349 kgs (kerb wt of Ford Figo Aspire sold in India is 1016 kgs). Mexico-spec Figo doesn’t feature side head airbags, curtain airbags, or driver knee airbag. Front passenger seatbelt pretensioners are not present.
