Ford has announced that Focus Europe variant will now be fitted with a new 1.0L turbocharged three cylinder EcoBoost engine which will come into effect in the coming few months. EcoBoost will offer higher fuel economy, as the 100 horsepower EcoBoost engine will offer 49 miles per gallon while the 125 horsepower EcoBoost engine will offer 47 miles per gallon, while tested under a variety of circumstances.
Mr Graham Hoare, Powertrain Director, Ford Motors Europe, said: “This 1.0-litre EcoBoost signals a new era of downsized, super frugal engines for the sub-130-horsepower segment. During development our UK engineers focused on improving thermal efficiency and reducing friction of the engine’s internal moving parts, especially during warm-up.”
EcoBoost engine, when fitted in Ford Focus, will escalate the price marginally as compared to the 1.6 liter four cylinder engines that it will be replacing. But due to decreased fuel emissions, Ford Focus will be entitled to a substantial tax discount, as is applicable in most European countries, which will balance the higher purchase costs.
