The Ford Mustang sportscar has been unveiled in India for the first time ever. The iconic nameplate has been in existence for five decades but this is the first time it’s available in RHD configuration. Launch of the new Mustang in India will take place in Q2 2016.
Ford’s halo product, the sixth generation Mustang is imported into the country as a completely built unit. Internationally, the pony car is available with three engine options but India gets only the range-topping variant, propelled by a 5.0-litre V8 engine. The supercharged petrol motor packs an impressive 429 bhp and 540 Nm torque.
The new Ford Mustang can be had in both coupe and convertible body styles, but in India only the former will be on offer. Styling is an evolution of what can be termed as a timeless fastback silhouette. Sharpened up front end and a more refined rear end are the main highlights.
Inside, the three-spoke steering wheel is adorned by the famous galloping horse mascot, triple centre AC vents and a low-set SYNC 3 multimedia infotainment system. The driver-focused cabin is swathed in leather with contrast stitching.
Equipment highlights include dual-zone climate control, segment first Selectable driving modes, Blind Sport Information System, HID headlamps with LED daytime running elements, multiple airbags (front, curtain and knee), Cross Traffic Alert, a 12-speaker audio system complete with 8-inch sub-woofer and of course, usual electronic gizmos like ABS with EBD, ESP and traction control.
The new Ford Mustang would serve as a brand shaper for the automaker in India. As far as competition goes, there is no direct contender for the pony in India as of now.
