Gavaskar, 69, was on his way to attend India’s fourth test match against England which was lost by a huge margin. He was travelling in a Jaguar, along with two others and a driver. Luckily, no one was hurt in the accident, the driver and three passengers emerged scared and shaken but thanking God for their safety.
Apparently prior to the accident, Gavaskar had to warn the driver on a number of occasions, cautioning him against rash driving in adverse weather condition. Gavaskar was reading newspaper while the other two co-passengers were asleep when the accident occurred. The driver too had reportedly dozed off, which in the first place caused an almost head-on collision with another car.
Gavaskar was seated by the side of the left door at the rear and none of the three occupants received any serious injuries. All three passengers then took a train from East Midland Park to London as the Jaguar was badly damaged. Gavaskar now gets set to take the mike for the fifth and final test starting on August 15.
