This week, General Motors and its joint ventures announce their 1 millionth vehicle sold in China in 2014. It’s the 8th consecutive year that GM has sold upward of 1 million vehicles in a calendar year, and this has been their quickest time ever. GM first sold 1 million vehicles in China in 2007, getting there in December. Last year, General Motors got to a million on April 22.
At a ceremony at GM China’s headquarters in Shanghai on April 21, GM will hand over the keys of the 1 millionth vehicle, a Chevrolet Trax small SUV to its new owner.
“General Motors has made China a global priority, expanding both our brand and product lineup to keep up with the changing demands of the market,” said GM Executive Vice President and GM China President Matt Tsien. “We appreciate the support that we have received from our partners, our joint ventures and, most important, our customers in China.” General Motors is all set to showcase new cars at Auto China 2014 in Beijing next week.
