GM car sales in India decline by 10 percent

GM India sold 7,364 cars during the month of June 2012, a decline by almost 10% as in the same month last year, they sold 8,187 cars. Last month, Chevrolet Beat hatch proved to be the most sought after GM vehicle in the country, registering sales of 5,263 units while 741 units of Chevrolet Tavera MUV were sold. Chevrolet Spark small car was next in line with 614 units sold while 557 units of newly launched Cruze and 181 units of Chevrolet Aveo added to General Motor’s total sales during the month.

In June 2011, GM India sold 3,318 units of Spark, 1,614 units of Beat, 95 units of UVA, 160 units of Aveo, 1,738 units of Tavera, 241 units of Optra, 860 units of Cruze, and 161 units of Captiva. Last month, in Mary 2012, GM India sold 6,057 cars in India.

General Motors India is not too optimistic of sales improving drastically during the upcoming festive season. Recent worker’s strikes, dismal market sentiments and slugging sales coupled with high fuel costs and rising interest rates and taxes are all causing concerns within the company.

General Motors launched their new Captiva SUV and Cruze sedan in the market. Both will be offered in three variants. Captiva 2.0 MT priced at Rs.18,74,062, Captiva 2.0 Xtreme a priced at Rs.19,48,347 and the Captiva 2.2 AT AWD a at a price of Rs.24,59,000. Chevrolet Cruze Manual at Rs.13.85 lakhs, Chevrolet Cruze LTZ Manual at Rs.14.77 lakhs and Chevrolet Cruze Auto at Rs.15.67 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom New Delhi).

GM India records sales of 7364 vehicles in June 2012

New Delhi, July 2, 2012: General Motors India has sold 7364 vehicles in the month of June 2012. The June sales include 5236 units of Chevrolet Beat, 741 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 614 units of Chevrolet Spark, 557 units of Chevrolet Cruze and 181 units of Chevrolet Aveo.

Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, General Motors India, said, “Although Chevrolet Beat recorded highest monthly sales, overall market continues to remain sluggish. In our case, substantial orders of Chevrolet Tavera are pending due to supply constraints on account of workers strike at vendor’s end. With market sentiments continuing to remain depressed, we are not expecting the market to show any remarkable improvement before the festival season.”
