General Motors India car sales for the month of April 2012 stood at 8,005 units as compared to 10,050 units sold in the month of April 2011. The April sales comprised of 4586 units of Chevrolet Beat, 1953 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 821 units of Chevrolet Spark, 455 units of Chevrolet Cruze, 140 units of Chevrolet Aveo, 28 units of Chevrolet Optra and 22 units of Chevrolet Captiva.
In April 2011 GM India sold 3,889 Chevrolet Spark, 2,447 Chevrolet Beat, 157 Chevrolet UVA premium hatchback, 162 units of Chevrolet Aveo sedan, 376 units of Chevrolet Optra mid-sized sedan, 939 units Chevrolet Cruze luxury sedan and remaining units of Tavera MUV.
Commenting on the performance, Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, General Motors India, said “The sales were not on the expected lines as uncertainty in fuel prices, hike in excise duty, and hike in local taxes in some states continue to put a lot of pressure on the automobile market. Also, a lot of purchases were advanced by customers in February and March fearing duty hikes in the Union Budget. With the RBI going for CRR cut to improve market liquidity and reducing repo rates by 50 basis points, we expect the market to improve in the coming months.”
