Greaves Cotton, a leading engineering company in India has introduced an electric scooter called Ampere Zeal. This new electric scooter is launched under the FAME II scheme allowing for a subsidy of Rs.18,000 for customers in the country.

Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles – FAME was introduced in April 2015 while the FAME II phase came in April 2019. In this, the govt of India will give subsidy of Rs 10,000 crores over the next three years to buyers of EVs.

Ampere Zeal electric scooter, priced at Rs.66,950 (after deduction of the subsidy amount), commands a top speed of 55 kmph. It has a range of 75 kmps with charge time of 5.5 hours. Its launch is a part of the company initiative to offer last mile e-mobility facilities to buyers.

Ampere Zeal electric scooter will be offered on sale via all Greaves Cotton dealerships in Bengaluru with sales to be expanded to the company’s 300+ outlets in a phased manner. The focus markets will be Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune where there is more use and demand for electric vehicles.

Zeal e-scooter is compact in dimensions and sports an attractive body style with distinctive body graphics. It gets apron mounted LED headlamps, handlebar mounted turn indicators, dual speed mode of economy and power and acceleration from 0 to 50 kmph in 14 seconds. It also gets fitted with an anti-theft alarm system as a security feature. The scooter weighs 78 kgs and comes in with a payload of 130 kgs. Ampere Zeal gets five glossy colour options which include Blue, Silver, Red, White and Yellow.

The electric scooter comes in with a warranty period of 1-3 years and after sales service via all of the Greaves Cotton retail stores. Zeal is a part of the tie up between Greaves Cotton and Ampere Vehicles wherein Greaves Cotton acquired a 67% stake last August. The e-vehicle range consists of the Reo, V48, Magnus and Angel for personal use and the Trishul and Mitra in the commercial space.
