Greentomato prepares for London Olympics 2012: Their cabs now have free Wi-Fi

Greentomatocars, London’s second largest taxi company and the first environmentally friendly minicabs have introduced free in-car Wi-Fi connectivity, thus becoming the first passenger car company in Europe to offer this facility. The company’s entire 300 strong fleet of hybrid, passenger cars and executive vehicles will all come with their own broadband connectivity thus making the ride more productive in the bargain.

A fleet of London minicab service will also join the likes of London Underground and BT by providing this free Wi-Fi service to their customers. Customers will now be able to surf the web while stuck in traffic or catch up on mails to and from work. The entire free services are powered by 3G Mobile Broadband through individual networks.

Each of these minicabs will have their own SIM cards which will be provided by Wireless Logic. Travelers will be able to access the web at download speeds of up to 7.2 Mb/sec and upload speeds up to 2 Mb/sec. An apt password of ‘ilovefreewifi’ is all it will take to connect to this free, quick and efficient service.

London is getting ready for the upcoming London Olympics. The Tube is in the process of acquiring hotspots and with the large number of Olympic fans expected to use public transport, taxis are not in line to offer the same services free of cost.

Greentomatocars is a minicab service which only uses environmentally friendly cars (Toyota Prius) in order to keep the environment green. Greentomatocars founder Jonny Goldstone told The Inquirer, “London has long been recognized as a hub for technological innovation. In 2008 it was named the WiFi capital of the world and in 2012 I think it would be fair to say it’s now the free WiFi capital. You don’t have to work in the technology industry to see the importance of connectivity. With free in-car WiFi we are able to offer our customers the access they need to stay connected.”
