Luxury Cars and SUVs get cheaper with the new GST rates. Luxury cars over 4 meters in length and above 1500cc are now taxed at 43% (28%+15%) as against an earlier 51.8% thus making cars in this segment cheaper by a great extent. SUVs, which have become popular in India, earlier incurred a tax of 55.3% which is now down to 43% as standard. This makes SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour cheaper by INR 3-3.5 lakhs.
17. BMW X5 – Price cut INR 3 lakhs
Priced from INR 67.9 lakhs to INR 79.9 lakhs post introduction of GST in India is the BMW X5. This is the largest BMW SUV on sale in the country and is offered in 5 and 7 seater options and in five different variants.
BMW X5 gets both petrol and diesel engines options. These include a 3.0 liter straight six petrol engine offering 306 bhp power and 400 Nm torque and a 3.0 liter straight six diesel engine capable of 258 bhp power and 560 Nm torque. Both engines come mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission and BMW’s four wheel drive technology.
BMW X5 competes with the Audi Q7, Mercedes Benz GLS and Volvo XC90.
16. Ford Mustang – Price cut INR 6 lakhs
The Ford Mustang gets INR 6 lakhs cheaper thanks to the new GST regulations in the country. It is now with a price tag of INR 66.30 lakhs and is powered by a 4951 cc V8 engine offering 401 PS power at 6,500 rpm and 515 Nm torque at 4,250 rpm mated to a 6 speed automatic gearbox.
Ford Mustang made its official debut in India prior to the 2016 Auto Expo where it also went on display. It is brought in as a CBU due to which it attracts higher taxes. It is seen with a host of safety features among which are electronic stability control, keyless entry, push button start, traction control and four selectable drive modes of normal, sport, sport+ and snow/wet.
