The Harley Davidson 1200 Custom which is billed as “the ultimate wide-shouldered cruiser” has been launched in India at INR 8.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The Sportster model will be assembled in India out of CKD kits at HD India’s Bawal facility in Haryana. This is the 8th Harley to be locally assembled and 13th in the American cruiser specialist’s Indian portfolio.

Launching the motorcycle, Vikram Pawah, Managing Director, Harley-Davidson India, stated that the company has a strategic product plan in place to progress to the next phase of growth. However, he stopped short of shedding light on the product pipeline.

The 1200 Custom features a front heavy stance, black powder coated engine with chrome treatment covers, steel laced wheels, chrome headlight bucket with eyebrow, two-up custom seat, polished triple clamps and LED taillights. Pull-back handlebar and forward-set foot pegs makes for an authentic cruiser ergonomics.

The digital instrument console houses gear shift indicator, two trip meters, engine diagnostics readout and many more. The motorcycle employs conventional front telescopic fork and rear coil springs. The wheels come wrapped in Michelin Scorcher 31-inch high profile tyres that are made specially for Sportster models.

The 1200 cc Evolution Twin Cylinder air-cooled engine gets signature twin silencers. Mated to a 5-speed transmission, the powerplant’s NVH characteristics are enhanced by rubber mounts. The motor is capable of producing 96 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm.
