India’s hatchback segment recorded 88,781 units in November 2025, registering a year-on-year growth of 8.87% over November 2024. However, on a month-on-month basis, sales declined by 6.73%, reflecting a typical post-festive slowdown. While mass-market models like Swift and Alto showed strong momentum, several premium hatchbacks continued to face pressure.
Maruti Suzuki completely dominated the hatchback segment, accounting for over 72% of total hatchback sales in November 2025. They have 7 hatchbacks on offer. Strong performances from Swift and Alto offset the decline seen in Baleno and WagonR. Tata emerged as the second-largest hatchback OEM, driven by consistent Tiago volumes and strong YoY growth for Altroz. Hyundai held third position, though both models (i10 and i20) saw YoY and MoM pressure, reflecting a slowdown in demand for premium hatchbacks.
Maruti Swift Leads, Alto Delivers Strong Recovery
Maruti Swift emerged as the top-selling hatchback in November 2025 with 19,733 units, posting a strong 33.9% YoY growth and a sharp 26.9% MoM jump. Maruti WagonR followed with 14,619 units, though its sales dipped 22.9% MoM, despite modest YoY growth. Maruti Baleno slipped to third place with 13,784 units, recording a 15.4% YoY decline, indicating sustained pressure in the premium hatchback space. Maruti Alto delivered one of the standout performances of the month, clocking 10,600 units, up 42% YoY and an impressive 70.7% MoM, driven by renewed demand in entry-level markets.

Tata, Toyota Gain; Hyundai Faces Mixed Results
Tata Tiago, including EV variants, sold 5,988 units, growing 12.6% YoY, though MoM sales dropped sharply after a strong October. Tata Altroz also posted a solid 44.7% YoY growth at 3,013 units, despite a MoM decline. Toyota Glanza recorded 5,032 units, up 32.2% YoY, but saw an 18.3% MoM dip. Hyundai i10 NIOS and i20 continued to face pressure, with i10 NIOS declining 19.6% YoY and i20 slipping 3.8% YoY, reflecting softer demand for Hyundai’s hatchback portfolio.
Maruti Hatchbacks That Are Struggling
Maruti Ignis posted 2,316 units, maintaining marginal YoY growth, while models like S-Presso and Celerio continued their downward trend. S-Presso sales fell 23.5% YoY, while Celerio saw a steep 41.5% YoY decline, underlining weakening demand in this sub-segment.

EVs and Niche Players Show Sharp Swings
MG Comet EV recorded 897 units, growing 49.5% YoY, though sales dipped MoM. Citroen C3 showed a sharp jump to 861 units, up 330.5% YoY, albeit from a low base. Renault Kwid remained muted at 447 units, while Citroen eC3 EV continued to struggle with just 16 units, reflecting limited traction.
Overall, hatchback sales in November 2025 highlight a clear split in demand. High-volume, value-focused models continue to drive growth, while premium hatchbacks and niche EVs remain under pressure. With year-end offers and entry-level demand holding firm, the segment is expected to remain stable, though sustained recovery for premium hatchbacks may take longer.
