Hero Motocorp first overseas manufacturing plant which is located at Villa Rica in Cauca province of Colombia, has commenced its operations. The inauguration also marked the global debut of the Hero Dash automatic scooter.
The plant was inaugurated by Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos and Hero Motocorp Chairman Pawan Munjal. Construction work of the plant which is spread across 68 acres has been completed in just 9 months.
Hero Motocorp’s 5th manufacturing facility will act as a export hub to other Andean and Central American nations. It has an initial production capacity of 80,000 units per annum which can be extended to 150,000 units. The company has announced that it will manufacture its top 10 models at the facility.
The Colombian production facility would help the company boost its sales in the country through an established network of 160 outlets across 133 cities and towns. The plant is set up with an investment of USD 70 million of which USD 38 million has been utilized for capital expenditure and the rest will be used as working capital for the next 5 years.
Hero Motocorp revealed that the plant will generate 2,200 employment opportunities in the region apart from paving way for several ancillary industries.
The Hero Dash scooter which was unveiled will be launched in India shortly to take on the Honda Activa.
