Hero MotoCorp in Sri Lanka two wheeler market: Mahindra bike exports to island nation will begin by 2012 end
Two wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp has introduced their two wheelers in Sri Lanka. This was done through a newly acquired partnership with ABANS Group who will be sole distributor for Hero two wheelers in the country. They will in turn distribute these two wheelers through their extensive network of 50 outlets which is expected to increase two fold in the not too distant future.
14 new models of Hero two wheelers were brought into Sri Lankan markets. Sri Lanka is an important market for two wheelers where like in India it is well-liked among the young and office going population. The country has a strong customer base and it is here that Hero MotoCorp plans on expanding their line of two wheelers with Sri Lanka being the first of international markets where the company has launched its products within just a year of parting ways with Hero Honda.
Cricketing legend Kumar Sangakkara introduced the 125cc ‘Glamour’ while Miss Sri Lanka Stephanie Siriwardhana unveiled ‘Pleasure’, paving the way for a rich future in the country. Hero MotoCorp plans on launching entry level models such as HF Deluxe and HF Dawn, the deluxe segment two wheelers such as Pro, Splendor NXG, Super Splendor, Glamour and Passion Pro and Karizma ZMR, Hunk Xtreme and Achiever in the premium segment with the scooter Pleasure is also being introduced in the country.
After stepping in as title sponsor for the recently concluded Sri Lanka Premier League, Mahindra too has announced their two wheeler strategy for Sri Lanka.By 2012 end, M&M scooters will be made available in Sri Lanka, followed by motorcycles. All Mahindra 2 wheelers will be imported into Sri Lanka from India, The company will partner with Ideal Group, to sell two wheelers in the island nation.In August 2012 Hero sold 4,43,801 units in comparison to 5,03,654 units sold in August 2013. Mahindra two wheelers posted sales figures of 10,028 units for August 2012.
