Honda Activa 125 BS6 FI TVC to feature Akshay Kumar – Launch nears

Honda Activa BS6

The new Honda Activa 125, showcased last month, holds the title of ‘India’s first BS VI compliant scooter. It comes in with several feature updates and will be officially launched in September 2019. Ahead of launch, Honda India has started shooting the TVC video of the same.

This was revealed by Honda’s brand ambassador, Akshay Kumar. In a social media post, shared by Mr Kumar earlier today, he says, “Happy to welcome the newest member of the Honda family…shooting today feels like home. @honda2wheelerin.” Along with the post, he has also shared a photo, in which he is seen standing next to the new 2019 Honda Activa BS6 FI, and Twinkle Khanna. With both holding a helmet, it is possible that the new TVC will feature both stars.

The Activa 125 BS VI is the second 125cc scooter with FI in India, after the Hero Maestro Edge 125 FI. But it is the first to get BS6 compliant engine, as well as first in its segment to get a side stand indicator with engine inhibitor. The engine of the new Activa 125 is also noiseless and will have idle start stop feature for enhanced fuel efficiency.

Honda Activa 125 BS6 FI will come in with 6 color options of Rebel Red Metallic, Black, Heavy Grey Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic, Pearl Precious White and Majestic Brown Metallic. Updates on the new Activa 125 include an external fuel filler cap with a 4 in one ignition switch, new LED headlamps with reflectors, chrome accents on side panels and new tail lamps. It also gets a semi digital speedometer console offering information such as average fuel economy, distance to empty and range etc.

One of the biggest changes to the new Honda Activa 125 is that it gets a BS VI compliant engine. This is a 124cc, single cylinder, air cooled engine with Fuel Injection system, but power and torque figures are yet to be announced. The engine is also more refined and smoother as compared to the engine seen on its current counterpart.

The same engine on the current Honda Activa 125 offers 8.4 bhp power at 6,500 rpm and 10.54 Nm torque at 5,000 rpm mated to a CVT. Also as compared to the old Activa 125, the BS VI compliant model will offer better fuel efficiency, improved power delivery, more responsive and lower emissions. The engine gets an offset cylinder which significantly reduces friction while the crankshaft is lighter allowing for improved combustion.

New Honda Activa 125 BS VI FI will compete with the TVS NTorq 125, Aprilia SR 125, Hero Maestro Edge and Suzuki Burgman Street 125 when launched. It could also see an upward revision of price by around 10-15 percent as compared to its the regular Honda Activa 125 which starts at Rs 60,000 – Rs 64,000, thus taking pricing of Activa BS6 up to around Rs.70,000.
