The 2019MY Honda Activa 125 was the first scooter in India to get BS6 update
HMSI’s (Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India) Activa 125 was launched in September 2019 as the first BS6-compliant scooter in the country. It received quite a few updates in terms of equipment while its bodywork remained the same as its BS4 counterpart. Offered in Drum, Drum/Alloy and Disc variants, prices initially stood at Rs 67,490, Rs 70,990 and Rs 74,490, respectively. The prices have now gone up by just Rs 552 and have hit Rs 68,042, Rs 71,542 and Rs 75,042, respectively.
The Honda Activa 6G, easily the best-selling scooter in India (sometimes becoming the highest-selling two-wheeler), was launched in January 2020. It comes in two variants: STD and Deluxe. Ex-showroom prices stood at Rs 63,912 for STD and Rs 65,142 for the higher Deluxe. However, the company has now increased prices of both these variants by Rs 552 to Rs 64,464 and Rs 65,964, respectively.
There are no visual or internal changes associated with the price hike. The Honda Activa 125 gets a full-LED headlamp and position lamps, idling stop system, semi-digital instrument cluster, full-metal body and some chrome elements. Other highlights include a side-stand engine cut-off system, double-lid external fuel filler cap and a large storage compartment on the apron. The BS6-compliant 124cc fuel-injected single-cylinder engine offers 8.18bhp and 10.3Nm of torque. It boasts of the brand’s advanced Honda Eco Technology (HET) and Enhanced Smart Power (eSP), with a new ACG silent start system.
The new BS6 Honda Activa 6G is available in six colours: Black, Glitter Blue Metallic, Pearl Spartan Red, Matte Axis Grey Metallic, Dazzle Yellow Metallic and Pearl Precious White. It also gets a full-LED headlamp and position lamps, an external fuel-filling cap and an engine start/stop switch. It rides on 12-inch wheels with a telescopic fork suspension at the front.
The Honda Activa 6G is powered by a 109.41cc BS6 FI single-cylinder engine good for 7.68bhp and 8.79Nm of torque. The motor features ACG silent start system along with HET and eSP. Fuel efficiency has improved by around 10 per cent compared to its BS4 version.
The Honda Aviator, which is yet to receive BS6 update, is not listed on the company website. Most likely, the 110cc scooter will be discontinued ahead of the BS6 era. Honda’s Grazia is another model missing on the website. Unlike the Aviator, Honda could re-introduce the Grazia in a BS6 avatar soon. It is fair to say that India’s scooter market is dominated by Honda products.
