Honda Brio based SUV could seat 7 and come to 2016 Delhi Auto Expo

Honda is gearing up to participate in the compact crossover race lead by Ford EcoSport as of now. As competitors and volume makers are busy in their respective workshops, some coming up with radically new models and some capitalising on the versatility of their existing small car platforms, Honda Motor Company is believed to be taking the latter route.

Honda already has Vezel compact SUV in international markets, but it would be a costly proposition for India as it is built on City’s platform.
So Honda is believed to be prepping a compact crossover based on Brio / Amaze platform, that also underpins the Mobilio MPV. Much like the last one, new Honda compact SUV could use the powerful 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol and .5 litre i-DTEC diesel engines, that started their duties in City sedan. But that’s not all, the new Honda compact crossover is believed to seat 7, somewhat like how the Mobilio does, if a new report by Autocar India is to be believed.

The publication also says that the model will have a fresh design and it will not be as compact as we may picture it to be. 7-seater could be a range topping variant set to compete with the likes of Renault Duster, Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai ix25 and Maruti S-Cross!
