A lot can change in a year and that’s evident from their December sales vehicle portfolio. Having retired a number of cars from their India offering has in a big way given HCIL a new lease of life allowing them to concentrate on a winning sedan keeping pace with shifting buyer preferences by introducing a much needed diesel car for India.
Model wise sales break-up for December 2013 is as follows. Brio hatchback 1026, Amaze sedan 4458, and Accord sedan 9 units. While domestic sales stood at 5493 units. This equates to 30% sales growth for the month on Christmas. Exports stood at 6 units taking total sales for Dec 2013 to 5499 units.
Model wise sales break-up for December 2012 is as follows. Brio hatchback 2286, Jazz hatchback 365, City sedan 1442, Civic 70, and
Accord 79 units. While domestic sales with 4,242 units, exports stood at 422 units taking total sales for Dec 2012 to 4664 units.
2013 saw Honda’s Jazz, and Civic fall out of favour in India for the time being. Exports and Accord sales went downhill in December 2013. Honda City sales are logically stopped as new City goes on sale following launch on January 7, 2014. The diesel sedan gets power from a 1.5 liter i-DTEC engine that also powers Amaze. Mated to a six speed MT offering 26 kmpl makes this sedan most fuel efficient car in India as indicated by ARAI. A 1.5 liter i-VTEC 4 cylinder engine continues to power its petrol sedan with fuel economy at 18 kmpl.
Jnaneswar Sen, Sr. Vice President – Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd., said, “Year 2013 has been very good year for HCIL business as we crossed one lakh units domestic sales for the first time in a calendar year with a total sales volume of 107,661 units during Jan – Dec 2013.
