Honda City enters the list of 10 best selling cars in India with record 115% growth

With a record 101,299 units sold since its launch in January 2014, the new Honda City has made it to the list of 10 best selling cars in India for the period 1st April 2014 to 31st March 2015. During this period, Honda City registered sales of 77,384 units, translating into a growth of 115.9%. This is the highest growth rate registered by any car in the list.

Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) released data on best selling cars in FY15. Maruti Suzuki Alto was at top of this list with sales to the tune of 2,64,492 units in 2014-15 as compared to sales of 2,58,281 units in the same period of the previous year. Three other Maruti Suzuki models also claimed top positions with Swift, DZire and WagonR in 2nd, 3rd and 4th position.

A notable fact was that Maruti Alto has retained this No. 1 position for the tenth year in succession. In second spot was the Swift with total sales of 2,01,338 units in FY14-15 as compared to 1,98,571 units in the previous fiscal while the Swift DZire claimed a No.3 position with 1,92,010 units sold, an increase of 2.4% over sales of 1,87,673 units in the previous fiscal. In No.4 spot was WagonR which witnessed a 3.12% increase in sales. 1,61,250 units sold in FY15 as against 1,56,369 units in FY14.

List of best selling cars in India during FY 2015

In 5th, 6th and 7th position were the Hyundai Grand i10, Hyundai Eon and Elite i20. In FY15, 99,088 units of Grand i10 were sold, 78,334 units of Eon were sold and sales of Elite i20 totaled 77,747 units.

Honda City, Maruti Celerio and Honda Amaze claimed 8th, 9th and 10th spot, with sales to the tune of 77,343 units, 68,143 units and 66,703 units respectively. Taking total sales into account in the past fiscal, the figure stood at 12,60,149 out of 18,76,017 cars sold in India in 2014-15.
