Honda City regains best-selling sedan status – Beats Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna

The most loved Honda on the Indian roads has been the legendary Honda City, which recently completed its 20 year anniversary in India. Till now, Honda has launched 4 generations of the City, the last one being the update in 2014, apart from minor mid-life facelifts like the one in 2017.

Reliable engines, futuristic design, refinement and the brand image which Honda carries, all contributed to the strong sales numbers which the City has managed to clock in the previous calendar year.

2017 saw 62,573 new Honda Citys entering the Indian roads whereas the number for Maruti’s Ciaz was 47,114 units during the same period. Interestingly, in 2016, the Ciaz was the market leader with a sales figure of 63,187 units compared to 57,619 units of the City. Credit is majorly due to the facelift which the City had received in Feb’17 which made the car more appealing and improved its price-proposition.

Compared to 2016, in the year 2017, sales for Honda City have seen a growth of 9.66% or 5,5568 units in absolute numbers. Overall, the year 2017 has been a good year for Honda Cars India Ltd as they managed to sell 1,78,755 vehicles, 15% higher than what they did in 2016 (1,56,107).
