Slated to make its debut in Indian markets officially on 11th April 2013, the new Amaze is built on the Brio platform, but do not make the mistake of assuming it as a Brio with extra boot space of 400 ltrs. The new Honda Amaze offers much more.
Highlight is of course the 1.5 liter four cylinder i-DTEC diesel engine derived from 1.6 liter Earth Dreams diesel. But the Amaze also offers best in class legroom. For a 3990mm long sedan, it amazing that the Amaze allows enough legroom in the front and rear, even when you make two people with a height of 6 foot, sit back to back. Your knees will also be saved from constant banging on the dashboard while changing gears.
Honda Amaze will also be offered in petrol. Amaze petrol will feature Brio’s 1.2L i-VTEC offering 88PS and 109 Nm torque. Unlike diesel Amaze, petrol option will also be available with a 5 speed automatic gearbox. Amaze petrol AT will deliver mileage of 15.5 kmpl while the MT variant will deliver 18 kmpl mileage.
Prices are not yet revealed, but considering that the Amaze will compete with Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, expect them to commence from INR 6 lakhs for its base petrol variant while the base diesel variant should be priced at INR 7 lakhs. The diesel engine is most powerful in its class with output of 100 PS and 200 Nm torque. It is also the most efficient in India with 25.8 kmpl mileage.
This higher level of efficiency is due to the fact that Honda has developed a new engine oil specifically suited for this engine. Jnaneshwar Sen, Honda Cars India, states that the usage of this new oil gives a 5% more than any other engine oil of same grade. On asking why the name Amaze, he says, drive one to understand.
