Livemint reports that Honda Car India is gearing up to replenish its product portfolio with 5 new launches (including the BR-V but excluding facelifts) by the end of FY2018-19. This move, which is not confirmed by the company, is expected to keep the lineup fresh and appealing.
The product onslaught will be commenced by the BR-V which is set to go on sale in a few days’ time (early May). The company is also said to be preparing a crossover based on the Jazz platform codenamed 2FM. The Honda 2FM is likely to be a Jazz with a rough road package. Such a variant is already on sale in certain international markets under the ‘Fit Twist’ brand name. The Honda City facelift is also slated for 2017.
Honda Car India is also believed to be working on next-gen Brio and Amaze, codenamed 2UA and 2UB respectively, to counteract the next gen Maruti Swift and Dzire. The Accord D-segment sedan is also expected to be relaunched and then there is the next-gen CR-V which has already started undergoing trials in the US.
Honda’s Indian sales in FY2015-16 grew only at 2% compared to the previous year. The market share declined to 6.8% from 7.2% during the same period. The new product activities are expected to help Honda stay in contention with Maruti and Hyundai.
