Honda PCX Electric and Hybrid scooter, Asia sales to begin in 2018

Honda has added another green vehicle to its portfolio and has the PCX Electric and PCX Hybrid scooters on display at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show. Both these scooters are built on the same design concept but sport different engines. Honda PCX Electric uses a high output motor developed by Honda with Honda Mobile Power Pack with detachable battery. PCX Hybrid gets a new high output battery with ACG start to assist the engine.

Honda PCX Electric is an all electric urban scooter measuring 1,923mm long, 745mm wide, and 1107mm tall. Its detachable mobile battery pack means that when there is no charging station in the vicinity, one can take out the batteries and charge them at any charging point. The batteries are stored under the seat, and are enclosed in handy cases for easy transportation if needed.

Honda PCX Electric and PCX Hybrid scooters sport a white and blue paint colour scheme and are designed and developed in-house. They receive the same features, look well built and future ready and set to go on sale across Asia and Japan as 2018 models. As on date there are no definite plans to bring these models to India though the company could decide to showcase these two scooters at 2018 Auto Expo in February.

with the Government of India planning to sell all electric vehicles by 2030, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India could be prompted to bring the Honda PCX Electric to India. At the upcoming 2018 Auto Expo in February 2018, one could be treated to a range of electric scooters, a market that hasn’t yet taken off despite small 125cc scooters being a formidable two wheeler segment in India.

At present, Hero sells a range of electric scooters in India. The Mahindra Genze electric scooter is marketed overseas but not yet sold in India.
