Honda scooter sales cross 2.5 crore – Of this Activa accounts for 2 crore units

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) announced its scooter sales have surpassed the 25 million mark (2.5 crore). This comes after their announcement last month, where they stated that sales of Honda Activa has crossed 2 crore mark.

Honda is the only company to reach the milestone in India. It took Honda 13 years to sell 10 million scooters, and the next 10 million, 3 years. The most recent 5 million was sold in a year. In all, the sales milestone is no easy feat.

Right from the beginning, Honda Activa has helped breathe life into scooter sales. Activa segment contribution has increased from 10 percent in 2001 to 32 percent in 2018. HMSI scooter portfolio includes Cliq, Activa, Activa 125cc and Grazia. With 57 percent market share, Honda’s dominance means every 2nd scooter sold in India is from Honda.

Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President – Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “From activating the scooter market to becoming the largest selling 2Wheeler in the country, Honda Activa transformed the way Indians ride. We thank our valued 25 million Honda scooter customers for trusting in the brand & making us the first choice of India.

Honda remains committed to bring the Joy of Riding to our customers by meeting their ever-growing & evolving demand with the core strength of advanced technology & innovation. Over the years, love and trust of customers for Honda scooters keeps growing & taking this motivation ahead, Honda firmly aims to lead the next wave of scooterization which has already started in Tier-II and tier-III towns.”

India leads Honda’s global two-wheeler business, and accounts for 32 percent of Honda two wheeler sales worldwide. In 18 years here, Honda 2Wheelers have been a part of 39 million Indian families. Today, a new customer literally buys a Honda two wheeler every 5 seconds. In enriching the customer experience, the company has introduced the Honda Joy Club customer loyalty programme.
