Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) announced its scooter sales have surpassed the 25 million mark (2.5 crore). This comes after their announcement last month, where they stated that sales of Honda Activa has crossed 2 crore mark.
Honda is the only company to reach the milestone in India. It took Honda 13 years to sell 10 million scooters, and the next 10 million, 3 years. The most recent 5 million was sold in a year. In all, the sales milestone is no easy feat.
Right from the beginning, Honda Activa has helped breathe life into scooter sales. Activa segment contribution has increased from 10 percent in 2001 to 32 percent in 2018. HMSI scooter portfolio includes Cliq, Activa, Activa 125cc and Grazia. With 57 percent market share, Honda’s dominance means every 2nd scooter sold in India is from Honda.
Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President – Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “From activating the scooter market to becoming the largest selling 2Wheeler in the country, Honda Activa transformed the way Indians ride.
