The auto market is going compact these days. Compact MPVs and compact crossovers are almost every market’s choice and automakers are either shrinking or blowing up bigger or smaller cars (respectively) to quickly respond to the demand while they work on all-new platforms and designs in the green room.According to Jonfis Fandy, Director of Marketing and Aftersales Service at PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) in Indonesia, Honda is studying the prospects of a new compact MPV, something like a Datsun Go+ rival, given the success of the latter.
A plan has not taken shape yet, if their study gives a green signal, we may be looking at a slightly extended version of Brio hatchback.
Hyundai is currently working on an MPV, likely in the C-segment. It would be based on Hexa Space concept showcased at 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, rivalling Honda Mobilio. India launch is slated for sometime in 2016. After that, there are chances for the South Korean automaker to spawn a budget MPV on Grand i10 / Xcent platform. Why not?
