Hyundai India is getting ready to launch their new compact sub 4 meter SUV, which will sit below the Creta in the company line-up. This new SUV has no name as yet, but is popularly known as Carlino or Styx. It is codenamed QXi internally.
This five seater compact SUV was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo as the Carlino concept. It will make global debut next month at the 2019 New York International Auto Show, on 17th April 2019. It will also make debut in India around the same time. Launch in India is expected to take place by mid-May 2019.
Hyundai Carlino QXi has been noted with distinctive boxy styling cues, as seen on the Creta and front fascia and other design elements as seen on the Kona crossover. It is seen with a hexagonal front grille, distinctive headlamps and LED DRLs in a two tier setup.
Its rear sports a tail gate design as seen on the Creta while the Styx will sit on 16” machine cut, dual tone alloy wheels. It will feature ventilated front seats (first in class feature), its interiors are done up in a black color scheme. It gets a large 8” touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets electric sunroof. Safety features will be at a premium with ABS, EBD, 7 airbags, hill hold assist and hill descent assist.
Engine specifications on offer are 2 petrol and 1 diesel. The 1.4 liter petrol and 1.4 liter diesel are same as on offer with the Hyundai Verna in India. The former is rated at 100 hp while the latter is rated at 90 hp. There will be a third option, which will be 1 liter 3 cylinder option (previous two are 4 cylinder). This is a state of the art modern engine, which is expected to deliver 100 hp power and 172 Nm torque. It will be offered with 7 speed DSG unit.
Set to rival the Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon in the segment, the Carlino QXi will be positioned between the Hyundai Elite i20 and Creta. It could range between Rs.8 lakhs for the base model going up to Rs 12 lakhs for the top end trim.
