Hyundai Creta sales are no longer the best in segment, thanks to the arrival of the likes of Kia Seltos and MG Hector. Even the likes of Mahindra XUV300 and Hyundai Venue have resulted in Hyundai Creta sales decline from an average of 10,000 units a month, to an average of about 6,000 units a month.
Ever since launched in 2015, Hyundai Creta was never offered at a discount. But these day the SUV is being offered at discount of up to Rs 1 lakh in order to boost sales. Apart from that, Hyundai will soon launch a cheaper variant of 1.6 diesel engine, which will help increase sales.
Hyundai Creta E Plus and EX are the base variants of the SUV. But currently, these two variants are only offered with 1.4 liter diesel BS4 engine option. If you want 1.6 liter diesel manual engine powered Creta, it is offered from SX variant onwards.
This means that the base Creta diesel 1.4 is priced from Rs 10 lakhs while the base Creta diesel 1.6 is priced from Rs 13.65 lakhs. Thats a huge difference of Rs 3.65 lakhs on ex-sh price. In order to bring this difference down, Hyundai has readied the launch of Creta E+ and Creta EX with the more powerful 1.6 liter diesel engine.
The 1.6 liter diesel engine is a BS4 compliant unit. It is rated to deliver 126 hp and 260 Nm via 6 speed MT. In comparison, the 1.4 diesel BS4 mill delivers 89 hp and 220 Nm via 6 speed MT. Mileage claimed by 1.6 liter diesl manual Creta is 19.67 kmpl while that by the 1.4 liter diesel manual is 21.38 kmpl.
Features on board the Creta E+ and EX 1.6 liter will be same as seen on Creta 1.4 liter respective variants. E+ base trim gets dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, remote central locking, speed sensor door lock, manual AC, rear parking sensor, rear AC vents, fabric seats, manual driver seat height adjustable, dual tone interiors, analogue speedometer and tachometer, digital display for MID, etc.
Creta EX variant gets music system with 6 speakers, touchscreen infotainment system, reverse camera assist, steering mounted controls, internal hard drive, etc. Both variants come with 3 years unlimited kms warranty as standard. Expect prices to start in the Rs 11.5 lakhs to Rs 12.5 lakh range for the new Creta E+ and EX variants.
At the 2020 Auto Expo, Hyundai will showcase the new generation Creta, which has already been launched in China this month. It will come with all new exteriors, interiors and engine options. New engine options will be all BS6 compliant, and they will be same as the one’s we have already seen on the Kia Seltos in India. Current Hyundai Creta will be discontinued ahead of the new Creta launch.
