The first test mule that was transported from Hyundai’s motherland South Korea to Chennai, India was described as IB Cross. We know Hyundai Elite i20 was codenamed IB and we also know that Hyundai ix25 is based on second generation i20 platform. Does this mean Hyundai ix25 will be called in India as i20 Cross like how Toyota has Etios Cross and Volkswagen has Cross Polo?
Certainly Hyundai ix25 is not a pseudo-crossover like the aforementioned Cross variants. Given the favourable response for i20 nameplate in India and recent event of Elite i20 crossing 4,600 pre-launch bookings, naming ix25 as i20 Cross could help in terms of marketing.
Further, dimensions of upcoming sub-4 metre SUV from Hyundai is revealed to be 4,000 x 1,700 x 1,800 mm (Length x Width x Height). Indian version Hyundai Elite i20 measures 3,850 x 1,685 x 1,505 (L x W x H), and Chinese version Hyundai ix25 have dimensions of 4270 mm x 1780 mm x 1630 mm (L x W x H). While length and height of i20 Cross match with Elite i20’s, height given in shipment report does not seem to be actual car’s measure.
Hyundai already confirmed launch of an SUV in 2015, now we know it will be the ix25 a.k.a i20 Cross.
