The new Hyundai Exter is directed towards Gen Z buyers with official launch set for the upcoming festive season
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) unveiled a design render of its soon to be launched Exter SUV. Now, first fully undisguised images of this small SUV have leaked online. This upcoming compact SUV, positioned between Grand i10 Nios and Venue in the company lineup, will take on the Tata Punch and recently launched Maruti Suzuki Fronx in its segment.
The 5 seater Hyundai Exter comes in with elements of Parametric Dynamism while it is a mix of Hyundai’s SUV DNA and Global Design Identity of Sensuous Sportiness design language. This sub 4 meter SUV sports a boxy stance and is smaller when compared to the Hyundai Venue. It gets a parametric front grille in a similar design as that seen on the Venue.

Depending on trim level, its exterior features detail a split headlamp unit, LED DRLs, LED projector lamps and rain sensing wipers. It will ride on 15 inch alloy wheels, though lower trims will receive steel wheels. It also gets roof rails, distinctive body cladding, LED tail lamps and single pane sunroof along with sufficient ground clearance.
The interiors will also sport the latest in terms of infotainment with connected car technology and cabin comforts. Hyundai Exter will come in with a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument panel, multi-function steering wheel and automatic climate controls.
Safety will be via a total of 6 airbags and cruise control etc, and in view of HMIL updating safety equipment on the Creta, Venue and i20, the new Exter could also boast of features such as three-point seat belts for occupants both at the front and rear and adjustable headrests on rear seat. These adjustable headrests not only offer comfort to the occupants but also protects from whiplash in a more efficient way as compared to fixed head rests.
Hyundai Exter – Engine, Estimated Price
Slated for launch by August 2023, just ahead of the upcoming festive season, the Hyundai Exter will be powered exclusively by a petrol engine lineup with a CNG variant to be added later. This 1.2 liter, 4 cylinder petrol engine will make 83 hp power and 113.8 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual or 5 speed AMT. The company could introduce a 1.0 liter turbo petrol engine and 1.5 liter CNG at a later stage.
Price estimates put the Hyundai Exter in a Rs 6 lakh to Rs 12 lakh range (ex-showroom). It will face up to a long list of competitors in the country. These will include the Tata Punch and Citroen C3 along with the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and recently launched Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
