Hyundai India showcased the new Genesis luxury sedan at 2014 Autocar Performance Show earlier this month. Now, the luxury sedan was spotted in Chennai wearing a black and white number plate, implying that this is not a test car, but one which is officially registered for personal use.
A total of three Genesis have been imported into India, all of which being registered to Hyundai India. Measuring 4,990 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, the new Genesis is offered with petrol engine options, which includes 3-litre 253 hp unit, 3.3-litre 278 hp version, 3.8-litre 310 hp and a top-spec 5 liter V8 engine offering 425 hp. The one in the images here is 3.8l V6 variant.
Genesis being a separate brand from Hyundai sees quality material and parts being used on the new Genesis which are head and shoulders above that seen on other Hyundai cars. With state of the art interiors and a host of infotainment features, occupant safety is paramount on the new Genesis which comes in with dual front, front side, rear side and full length side curtain airbags besides driver’s knee airbag, traction and stability controls. It also receives automatic emergency braking system, blind spot warning system, a rear cross traffic alert system, lane keep assist setup, lane departure warning system and electronic stability control.

The Genesis is a premium luxury sedan with a very powerful petrol engine. It competes with the likes of E Class, A6 and 5 Series, if not a class above them. Buyers in this segment expect a different treatment from dealers, and not like the one offered by existing Hyundai dealers who mostly sell cars under Rs 10 lakhs.
Genesis on the other hand, would cost in the range of Rs 50 lakhs, if launched in India. If Hyundai India is really planning on launching the Genesis here, they will have to work on upgrading dealership experience or open separate dealerships for the Genesis brand.
