Micra hatchback from the Japanese car maker Nissan has emerged as the most exported car from India during the fiscal year 2014-15. Though not a best seller in domestic markets, with about average ales of 800 units a month, Nissan Micra exports for last fiscal stood at 76,120 units, thats more than 6,300 units a month.
Demand for India-made Nissan Micra was from South Africa, eastern European countries and Mexico. This is for the first time Nissan Micra has come out on the top, as before this, it was Hyundai i10 which held the No 1 position in exports from India. For FY 2014/15, Hyundai Grand i10 exports stood at 63,585 units. This was followed by Volkswagen Vento at 56,064 units, and Ford EcoSport with 55,178 units.
Nissan Micra is produced in India at the company’s Chennai plant shared with Renault which is used as an export hub. Another Nissan model which featured on the top 10 list of exports was the Nissan Sunny of which 38,759 units were exported in FY15 as against 37,730 units exported in the same period a year earlier. Below is the list of top 10 cars exported from India during FY2014/15.
Points to be noted here, In Sep 2013, Hyundai Grand i10 was launched. This car replaced i10 in European markets, but in India, Hyundai decided to continue to offer it along-side the old i10. Thus, the sharp decline in numbers of i10, and rise in export numbers of Grand i10. Also, Hyundai has stopped exporting the new i20 from India, as the demand in local market is huge. Hyundai Turkey plant takes care of Europe now.
