Designed and styled at Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre in Russelsheim, Germany and set to take on Toyota Etios Cross, Fiat Avventura and Volkswagen Polo Cross, the new Hyundai i20 Active is just a few minutes away from its global launch.
Based on the Indian Car of the Year 2015 – Elite i20, Hyundai i20 Active will mark the entry of the South Korean car maker in yet another segment. With an aim to increase sales to 5 lakh units annually, in the domestic market, Hyundai India is on a product offensive. It’s just March, and this is their second launch of the year already.
Hyundai i20 Active will sport the same engine options as seen on board Elite i20. Petrol engine on board the i20 Active will be a 1.2 liter dual VTVT engine offering 83 PS power and 114 Nm torque mated to a five speed manual gearbox. A 1.4 liter U2 CRDi 4 cylinder diesel engine will be capable of 90 PS power and 220 Nm torque mated to a six speed manual gearbox.
The petrol and diesel engine will claim mileage of 17.19 kmpl and 21.19 kmpl respectively which is marginally lower than that offered on the i20 hatchback. This is because of the added weight, and revised final gear ratio, which as resulted in better acceleration, as compared to Elite i20.
Along with increased ground clearance of 190 mm, Hyundai i20 Active increases in dimensions as well. Standing 3995 mm long, 1760 mm wide and 1555 mm tall, Hyundai i20 Active sits on a wheelbase measuring 2570 mm. This means, it is longer by 10 mm, wider by 26 mm, and taller by 50 mm. This increase in dimensions is due to addition of plastic cladding on the sides, scuff plates at the front and rear, and roof rails on the top, along with added ground clearance of 20 mm. Interior room is exactly the same as Elite i20.
