The new Hyundai B-segment SUV will be a global product which will take on the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, etc on launch. Expected to be launched in 2017, this new B-segment SUV has now commenced road test in Europe.
Based on the i20 platform (Creta too is based on the same platform), new Hyundai B-segment SUV could be based on the Hyundai Intrado concept which was showcased at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Spy shots reveal that the new compact SUV from Hyundai sports some similarities to the Intrado concept.
Highlights include – a new front design sporting a six point cascading grille, two tier headlamp structure and unique tail lamps with LED at the rear. Side profile has curves (like i20) while a fast rear windscreen rake adds some element of style. This new Hyundai B-segment SUV will sport a host of on-board safety equipment with novel body structure and paneling along with plenty of off-road capabilities.
The i20 based SUV could come in powered by a 1.0 liter T-GDi petrol engine, a 1.4 liter T-GDi petrol engine and a 1.6 liter CRDi diesel engine. Each of these engines will be mated to transmission choices of 6 speed manual, 6 speed automatic or 7 speed dual clutch automatic. Top end models could be offered with an all wheel drive system while base models will have only front wheel drive option.
