Hyundai i20 Cross has been testing around Chennai plant enough. The pseudo-crossover is set to launch in the last month of first quarter, at around Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 75,000 higher than its original hatchback version Hyundai Elite i20. Just like the latter, i20 Cross will have its global unveil and sales debut in India.Following the strategy of Toyota Etios Cross, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Fiat Avventura, Hyundai i20 Cross is made by adding accessories like lower-body cladding, redesigned bumpers, roof rails and the like, that give a rugged appeal to the original hatchback model. Further, to support the Crossover / SUV selling point, Hyundai may increase the ground clearance (from 170 mm in Elite i20) and make the 16 inch alloy wheels standard. It is unclear if luggage rack or cycle rack will be offered in the package.
Powering the new B-segment product from the South Korean automaker, will be the same motors doing duty in Hyundai Elite i20, including 1.2 litre Kappa VTVT petrol and 1.4 litre U2 CRDi diesel units. But unlike any of the rivals, the engines in i20 Cross are said to push higher power / torque than the hatchback version.
