2015 Hyundai i20 gets Kappa 1.0 litre T-GDI 120 PS turbo engine

Hyundai turbo petrol enginesHyundai has developed new 1.0 litre T-GDI engine based on Kappa 1.0 litre MPI unit with varied improvements and new technologies, at Hyundai’s European Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany. The 998 cc three cylinder motor gets direct petrol injection and a small single-scroll turbocharger. New Kappa 1.0-litre T-GDI pushes up to 120 PS max. power and 172 Nm peak torque. This powerhouse is confirmed to join the engine line-up of 2015 Hyundai i20.

Second engine on display, Kappa 1.4-litre T-GDI motor, is newly developed 1352 cc four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that weighs 14 kg less compared to Gamma 1.4-litre unit. New motor weighing 87 kg incorporates a high-pressure single-scroll turbocharger integrated within exhaust manifold, to improve operational efficiency, throttle response time and low-end torque. It produces 117 PS max. power in CNG mode and 206 Nm peak torque, showcased fitted in i30 CNG concept car.

Hyundai Elite i20-019 IndiaHyundai’s first seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT), also debuted in i30 CNG concept car, is optimised for responsiveness using electric motor-driven actuator. It has external damper to improve Noise, Vibration & Harshness during driving.
