Hyundai confirms two new cars for India: Are they i30 and ix25?

One of them is a premium hatchback which will sit above the i20, while the second is a premium compact SUV. As or now, above the i20, Hyundai already has a premium hatchback – i30. When asked is it the i30 which they are considering for India launch, Hyundai said that they are not sure about the nomenclature of the car for India. What they are sure about, is that this new Hyundai car will be priced below Rs 10 lakhs and will be launched by Diwali this year. This means that Hyundai fans has two new cars to look forward to this year, first is the i20 facelift and the second is this new premium hatchback.

i30 is amongst the best selling cars of Hyundai globally. Till date, over 1 million units of i30 has been sold globally, out of which over 500,000 units were sold in Europe. Produced from Hyundai’s Nošovice, Czech Republic plant since 2008, the i30 is offered in a choice of both petrol and diesel engine options.

Speaking about the compact SUV which Hyundai is planning on launching in India, is most probably the ix25 compact SUV. First unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show earlier this year, it will be produced in China through the Beijing Hyundai joint venture. ix25 compact SUV in China will measure 4270 mm in length, 1780 mm in width and 1630 mm in height and sits on a wheelbase measuring 2590 mm.

The new Hyundai ix25 is powered by a 2.0 liter Nu direct injection, four cylinder engine for China, capable of developing peak power of 173 bhp and 208 Nm torque. When it comes to India, the ix25 will be powered by a different set of engines, mostly 1.2 liter petrol and 1.4 liter diesel engine.

Looking quite similar to ix35 Fuel Cell model, the new ix25 from Hyundai receives additional features to give it a more rugged appeal. These features include wrap around boomerang shaped headlights, triple slat grille with chrome surrounds and larger bumpers along with enhanced air intakes and new fog lamps. A grey coloured skid plate and body cladding adds to its sporty appeal.

Launch in India will see the Hyundai ix25 compete with the likes of Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Nissan Terrano besides the upcoming Mahindra S101 and VW Taigun. Price of Hyundai ix25 in China is about 140,000 yuan (or EUR 16,259 or INR 13.55 lakhs or $22,462), where it will go on sale by October this year. India launch of this new compact SUV from Hyundai will take place in 2015.
