Hyundai celebrates production of 80 lakh cars in India – Lucky no 8 million is new Creta

Country’s second largest car manufacturer, Hyundai India has announced that their cumulative production in the country has crossed the 80 lakh mark. Yes, the South Korean company has successfully manufactured their 8 millionth car from their plant in Chennai. Car number 8 million is the all new Creta, which was launched just a few days back.

Hyundai started their journey in India back in 1996. The sold their 1 millionth car in 2006. The next 12 years saw them achieve record growth. In 19 years and 6 months, the company has sold 8 million or 80 lakh cars.

Commenting on this remarkable achievement, Mr. Y.K Koo, Managing Director and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited said, “Evolution of a Revolution is Hyundai’s DNA. The company owes this success in the domestic market to innovative new-generation cars like the Creta, i20 and the Grand i10. All three of which have become a huge success in the country. Hyundai’s market share in the country too is at an all-time high of 17%. The company aims to increase this number by 1% every year in their long-term goal of becoming the largest car manufacturer in the country. As of now Maruti Suzuki is the largest car maker in India with a market share of 47%.

Launches this year from Hyundai India include two premium cars – the new Elantra and Tucson. Apart from that, Hyundai India also launched special editions of their Grand i10 and Xcent, which marked the brand’s 20th anniversary in India.

In 2017, Hyundai India is expected to launch the facelift versions of Grand i10, Xcent, New Gen Verna, and the Creta facelift to keep the sales momentum going.
