India’s second largest passenger car manufacturing company, Hyundai India continues its record growth in the domestic market. During September 2015, the company registered sales of 42,505 units in the domestic market, which compared to September 2014 figures of 35,041 units, is an increase of 21.3%.
Also, the figure 42,505 units is their best ever for any calendar month since the company started operating in India. As per Hyundai India, the growth in sales was due to their cars like Elite i20, i20 Active, Grand i10 and the newly launched Creta SUV.
With over 40,000 bookings, Creta has already become India’s best selling SUV.
Exports on the other hand, have declined. For September 2015, Hyundai India exported a total of 14,030 units, as against 16,430 units exported in the month of September 2014. The decline is not because of low demand in export markets, but because Hyundai India is focusing more on domestic market.
As the company’s plant in Chennai is working at full capacity, there is hardly any room for increasing domestic sales without sacrificing on exports. To get out of this situation, Hyundai India is looking at setting up a new car and engine manufacturing plant in India.
