2016 Hyundai Ioniq will be offered in three powertrain options to include a full electric vehicle, a hybrid electric vehicle and a plug-in hybrid. While the hybrid variant is already revealed, the first image and details of the Ioniq EV have now been detailed ahead of launch.
The name Ioniq is a combination of the word ‘ion’, an electrically-charged atom, and the word ‘unique’. Hyundai Ioniq EV comes in with an 88 kW electric motor capable of 150 kmph top speed. The electric motor sources power via a 28 kW battery pack positioned below the rear seats while it is capable of a range of up to 169 km.
Set to compete against the Kia Soul and Nissan Leaf, the 2016 Hyundai Ioniq EV will be priced at around 40 million won (RM136,012 / US$ 32,329 / INR 22,19,238) for the base N variant while top end variants will see additional costs.
The new Ioniq EV will boast of features that include projector headlights with LED DRLs, 7 airbags and 16” alloy wheels while interiors will be seen with a premium audio multimedia system, 6 speaker audio system and 5.0” color LCD screen. It will be on the higher spec models that LED headlights, 8.0” touchscreen infotainment and 8 speaker JBL audio system will also be present.
