Hyundai ix25 SUV undergoes crash test, scores five stars

Hyundai’s new ix25 SUV expected to launch in India sometime this year has achieved a five star rating in crash tests undertaken in China. The car was awarded 5/5 and was put to a 100 percent overlap test, side impact test, 40 percent overlap front crash and whiplash.

When the Hyundai ix25 SUV was put to the 100 percent overlap test at speeds of 50 kmph it received a score of 15.89 points out of a top score of 18 points while when tested for side impact, the ix25 had to tackle a moving deformable barrier while travelling at 50-51 kmph. In this test, Hyundai ix25 scored 18/18 points. 40 percent overlap frontal impact tests were conducted at speeds of 64 kmph wherein the ix25 SUV achieved a score of 14.11 out of 18 points. The final test was whiplash test with the driver’s seat and restraint system being tested while tackling a speed of 15.56 kmph with the ix 25 earning a 100 percent score.

Hyundai ix25 is the first compact SUV for the brand in India. The Korean automakers have invested INR 1,000 crores on its development as it targets a competitive pricing with 90 percent localization. Hyundai will be launching both the ix25 and Elite i20 Cross in India during the year where it will compete against Nissan Terrano, Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and Mahindra Scorpio. Expected pricing will be around INR 8-10 lakhs.
