Hyundai ix25 SUV made its premiere at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show earlier this year. Designed for the Chinese auto industry, ix25 has potential to be a success in India as well. The car has already been spotted in India, making test runs wearing camouflage. Once launched in India, Hyundai ix25 will compete with the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Mahindra XUV500.
In China, ix25 is offered only with petrol engines, while in India, it will get both, petrol and diesel engine options, mostly the 1.6l petrol and diesel one’s which do duty on the Verna currently. Price in China ranges from Rs 12 lakhs to Rs 18 lakhs, while in India, expect the price to range from Rs 8-12 lakhs, thanks to localization.
Apart from manufacturing the ix25 for India, it will also be exported to some of the South East Asian nations. Rush Lane has learnt that one of the first countries to receive Made in India Hyundai ix25 will be Thailand.
Hyundai is the largest car exporter in India. Their plant in Chennai is the most utilized car manufacturing plant in India. It currently has a capacity to produce 680,000 units. With their domestic sales increasing, Hyundai has decided to reduce on exports. Starting with the new i20 for Europe, which will not to be produced in India, but will be produced in Turkey. This has been done so that the car maker can concentrate on handling India’s rising demand.
Also, Hyundai is working on their second plant in India, and third plant in China. Once these two plants are commissioned, Hyundai plans to further increase their dominance in the auto industry.
